GOD OPENS DOORS AND CLOSES DOORS THRU ANSWERED PRAYER (AGAIN)

A personal privilege here.
My wife Cathy and I were owners of radio stations across northern and central Illinois, for some 43 years, from 1982 until last August.
At the time we sold our group, I had 8 stations in 2 different markets. We had been in Taylorville some 33 years, while we had been in the Clinton market almost 18 years.
Our children grew up in Taylorville, and graduated from Taylorville High School.
Cathy and I made countless lifelong friends, including the advertisers that we built decades relationships with.
As we both have gotten older, we began praying in the fall of 2021, that God would open a door for us to sell the radio group, and to a local owner or group of owners.
We began knocking on doors in December 2021. We kept visiting prospective buyers, kept praying, but also kept the day-to-day business serving our listeners and advertisers in both markets.
God didn’t open a door for those 4 years. He kept telling us “just keep doing what your doing in serving your listeners and advertisers. I’ll give you the strength to keep going. I got this.”
So, that’s what we did.
Our praying continued.
And, in August 2024, God brought us a local buyer to buy all 8 stations in both markets. The purchase price was based on cash flow in 2022, 2023, and 2024.
Which were the BIGGEST years in gross revenue and CASH FLOW we had ever had!
God knew what he was doing. While we kept saying “ok, God, how much longer?”, He was setting us up for the sale.
We closed on August 1, 2025. The new owner, also a believer, told me he believed God opened a door for him to buy the stations. We believed God opened the door for us to sell.
God knows what He’s doing! He opens doors and closes doors. We just have to LISTEN to Him to know which door He wants us to go thru…and when.
We recently sold our Taylorville, IL, house and next week drive a U-Haul and auto dolly with our vehicle, to our winter home in North Port, Florida, where we’ll become permanent residents. While it’s sad to leave many friends we have made in both communities—especially Taylorville--many of our business and church friends have already retired in that area, the Gulf side of Florida.
And, we’ve promised our daughters and grandkids—all of which live in Illinois—that we will be BACK to see all of them at least once every quarter, maybe more often if they’ll put up with us!
We thank God for continuing to open and close doors in our 52 years in radio and 43 in ownership. We believe God has even more opportunities to serve Him in Florida.
God is GOOD!
